Surah Al-Buruj · The Mansions of the Stars

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ ۝١

wal-samāi dhāti l-burūj

By the sky containing great stars

وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ ۝٢

wal-yawmi l-mawʿūd

And [by] the promised Day

وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ ۝٣

washāhidin wamashhūd

And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,

قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ ۝٤

qutila aṣḥābu l-ukh'dūd

Destroyed [i.e., cursed] were the companions of the trench

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ ۝٥

al-nāri dhāti l-waqūd

[Containing] the fire full of fuel,

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ ۝٦

idh hum ʿalayhā quʿūd

When they were sitting near it.

وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ ۝٧

wahum ʿalā mā yafʿalūna bil-mu'minīna shuhūd

And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.

وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ ۝٨

wamā naqamū min'hum illā an yu'minū bil-lahi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥamīd

And they resented them not except because they believed in Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ ۝٩

alladhī lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin shahīd

To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, over all things, is Witness.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ ۝١٠

inna alladhīna fatanū l-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti thumma lam yatūbū falahum ʿadhābu jahannama walahum ʿadhābu l-ḥarīq

Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ ۝١١

inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lahum jannātun tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru dhālika l-fawzu l-kabīr

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ ۝١٢

inna baṭsha rabbika lashadīd

Indeed, the assault [i.e., vengeance] of your Lord is severe.

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ ۝١٣

innahu huwa yub'di-u wayuʿīd

Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.

وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ ۝١٤

wahuwa l-ghafūru l-wadūd

And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ ۝١٥

dhū l-ʿarshi l-majīd

Honorable Owner of the Throne,

فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ ۝١٦

faʿʿālun limā yurīd

Effecter of what He intends.

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ ۝١٧

hal atāka ḥadīthu l-junūd

Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ ۝١٨

fir'ʿawna wathamūd

[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamūd?

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ ۝١٩

bali alladhīna kafarū fī takdhīb

But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,

وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ ۝٢٠

wal-lahu min warāihim muḥīṭ

While Allāh encompasses them from behind.

بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ ۝٢١

bal huwa qur'ānun majīd

But this is an honored Qur’ān

فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ ۝٢٢

fī lawḥin maḥfūẓ

[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.
