Surah Al-Mursalat · The Emissaries

وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِ عُرْفًا ۝١

wal-mur'salāti ʿur'fā

By those [winds] sent forth in gusts

فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِ عَصْفًا ۝٢

fal-ʿāṣifāti ʿaṣfā

And the winds that blow violently

وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًا ۝٣

wal-nāshirāti nashrā

And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]

فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِ فَرْقًا ۝٤

fal-fāriqāti farqā

And those [angels] who bring criterion

فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا ۝٥

fal-mul'qiyāti dhik'rā

And those [angels] who deliver a message.

عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا ۝٦

ʿudh'ran aw nudh'rā

As justification or warning,

إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌ ۝٧

innamā tūʿadūna lawāqiʿ

Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ ۝٨

fa-idhā l-nujūmu ṭumisat

So when the stars are obliterated

وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ ۝٩

wa-idhā l-samāu furijat

And when the heaven is opened

وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ ۝١٠

wa-idhā l-jibālu nusifat

And when the mountains are blown away

وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ ۝١١

wa-idhā l-rusulu uqqitat

And when the messengers' time has come...

لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ ۝١٢

li-ayyi yawmin ujjilat

For what Day was it postponed?

لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۝١٣

liyawmi l-faṣl

For the Day of Judgement.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۝١٤

wamā adrāka mā yawmu l-faṣl

And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝١٥

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ۝١٦

alam nuh'liki l-awalīn

Did We not destroy the former peoples?

ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ ۝١٧

thumma nut'biʿuhumu l-ākhirīn

Then We will follow them with the later ones.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ ۝١٨

kadhālika nafʿalu bil-muj'rimīn

Thus do We deal with the criminals.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝١٩

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍ ۝٢٠

alam nakhluqkkum min māin mahīn

Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ ۝٢١

fajaʿalnāhu fī qarārin makīn

And We placed it in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb]

إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ ۝٢٢

ilā qadarin maʿlūm

For a known extent.

فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝٢٣

faqadarnā faniʿ'ma l-qādirūn

And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٢٤

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا ۝٢٥

alam najʿali l-arḍa kifātā

Have We not made the earth a container

أَحْيَآءً وَأَمْوَٰتًا ۝٢٦

aḥyāan wa-amwātā

Of the living and the dead?

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُم مَّآءً فُرَاتًا ۝٢٧

wajaʿalnā fīhā rawāsiya shāmikhātin wa-asqaynākum māan furātā

And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٢٨

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٢٩

inṭaliqū ilā mā kuntum bihi tukadhibūn

[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِى ثَلَـٰثِ شُعَبٍ ۝٣٠

inṭaliqū ilā ẓillin dhī thalāthi shuʿab

Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns.

لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ ۝٣١

lā ẓalīlin walā yugh'nī mina l-lahab

[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."

إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍ كَٱلْقَصْرِ ۝٣٢

innahā tarmī bishararin kal-qaṣr

Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَـٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ ۝٣٣

ka-annahu jimālatun ṣuf'r

As if they were yellowish [black] camels.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٣٤

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ ۝٣٥

hādhā yawmu lā yanṭiqūn

This is a Day they will not speak,

وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ ۝٣٦

walā yu'dhanu lahum fayaʿtadhirūn

Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٣٧

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ۝٣٨

hādhā yawmu l-faṣli jamaʿnākum wal-awalīn

This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.

فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ ۝٣٩

fa-in kāna lakum kaydun fakīdūn

So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٤٠

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ وَعُيُونٍ ۝٤١

inna l-mutaqīna fī ẓilālin waʿuyūn

Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ ۝٤٢

wafawākiha mimmā yashtahūn

And fruits from whatever they desire,

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ۝٤٣

kulū wa-ish'rabū hanīan bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ ۝٤٤

innā kadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٤٥

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ ۝٤٦

kulū watamattaʿū qalīlan innakum muj'rimūn

[O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٤٧

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ ۝٤٨

wa-idhā qīla lahumu ir'kaʿū lā yarkaʿūn

And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ۝٤٩

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ ۝٥٠

fabi-ayyi ḥadīthin baʿdahu yu'minūn

Then in what statement after it [i.e., the Qur’ān] will they believe?
