ʿamma yatasāalūn

About what are they asking one another?

ʿani l-naba-i l-ʿaẓīm

About the great news -

alladhī hum fīhi mukh'talifūn

That over which they are in disagreement.

kallā sayaʿlamūn

No! They are going to know.

thumma kallā sayaʿlamūn

Then, no! They are going to know.

alam najʿali l-arḍa mihādā

Have We not made the earth a resting place?

wal-jibāla awtādā

And the mountains as stakes?

wakhalaqnākum azwājā

And We created you in pairs.

wajaʿalnā nawmakum subātā

And made your sleep [a means for] rest

wajaʿalnā al-layla libāsā

And made the night as clothing.

wajaʿalnā l-nahāra maʿāshā

And made the day for livelihood.

wabanaynā fawqakum sabʿan shidādā

And constructed above you seven strong [heavens].

wajaʿalnā sirājan wahhājā

And made [therein] a burning lamp

wa-anzalnā mina l-muʿ'ṣirāti māan thajjājā

And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water.

linukh'rija bihi ḥabban wanabātā

That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation.

wajannātin alfāfā

And gardens of entwined growth.

inna yawma l-faṣli kāna mīqātā

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -

yawma yunfakhu fī l-ṣūri fatatūna afwājā

The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes

wafutiḥati l-samāu fakānat abwābā

And the heaven is opened and will become gateways.

wasuyyirati l-jibālu fakānat sarābā

And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.

inna jahannama kānat mir'ṣādā

Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait

lilṭṭāghīna maābā

For the transgressors, a place of return,

lābithīna fīhā aḥqābā

In which they will remain for ages [unending].

lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan walā sharābā

They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink.

illā ḥamīman waghassāqā

Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -

jazāan wifāqā

An appropriate recompense.

innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisābā

Indeed, they were not expecting an account

wakadhabū biāyātinā kidhābā

And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.

wakulla shayin aḥṣaynāhu kitābā

But all things We have enumerated in writing.

fadhūqū falan nazīdakum illā ʿadhābā

"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."

inna lil'muttaqīna mafāzā

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -

ḥadāiqa wa-aʿnābā

Gardens and grapevines.

wakawāʿiba atrābā

And full-breasted [companions] of equal age.

wakasan dihāqā

And a full cup.

lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laghwan walā kidhābā

No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -

jazāan min rabbika ʿaṭāan ḥisābā

[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,

rabbi l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā l-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna min'hu khiṭābā

[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.

yawma yaqūmu l-rūḥu wal-malāikatu ṣaffan lā yatakallamūna illā man adhina lahu l-raḥmānu waqāla ṣawābā

The Day that the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.

dhālika l-yawmu l-ḥaqu faman shāa ittakhadha ilā rabbihi maābā

That is the True [i.e., certain] Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.

innā andharnākum ʿadhāban qarīban yawma yanẓuru l-maru mā qaddamat yadāhu wayaqūlu l-kāfiru yālaytanī kuntu turābā

Indeed, We have warned you of an impending punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"
