How to make wudu: a step-by-step guide for kids with pictures
This is how the Prophet ﷺ made wudu: eight short steps with pictures, read aloud by a child’s voice, then a game to put them in order and earn the “Little wudu champion” medal.

1Intention and Bismillah
I intend wudu in my heart, then I say: Bismillah.

2Washing the hands 3 times
I wash my hands three times.

3Mouth and nose 3 times
With my right hand I take water into my mouth, then into my nose, three times.

4Washing the face 3 times
I wash my whole face, from my hairline to my chin, three times.

5Arms up to the elbows 3 times
I wash my right arm up to the elbow, then the left, three times.

6Wiping the head and ears once
With wet hands I wipe my head from front to back and back again, then my ears, once.

7Feet up to the ankles 3 times
I wash my right foot up to the ankles, then the left, three times.

8The dua after wudu
I say: Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿabduhu wa rasuluh.
From the description of the Prophet’s ﷺ wudu in al-Bukhari and Muslim (the hadith of ʿUthman and of ʿAbdullah ibn Zayd); the dua after it is from Muslim.

Open wudu in QurrahFrequently asked questions
- What is the order of wudu for kids?
- Intention and Bismillah, then washing the hands, the mouth and nose, the face, the arms up to the elbows, wiping the head and ears, washing the feet up to the ankles, then the dua.
- How many times is each part washed?
- The Sunnah is three times for each part except the head and ears, which are wiped once; washing once, fully, is enough.
- What is the dua after wudu?
- Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ʿabduhu wa rasuluh (Muslim).
- At what age should my child learn wudu?
- The Prophet ﷺ said: “Instruct your children to pray when they are seven.” So wudu comes before or with it, and little ones love copying their parents even earlier.
